I’m due on August 14, this is my third pregnancy, and I went 3 weeks early with my other 2 kids. I have a bladder infection, and have been having contractions on and off, and was told that bladder infections can sometimes bring on preterm labour. If this happened, would my baby be fine, or would it still need to be delivered ina hospital equipped for babies that need special care?

Why don’t you get something to stop the contractions? I had to take something to stop contractions when I was about 6 1/2 months pregnant with my daughter. They can give you something.
There’s a possibility you wouldn’t need any special care, but there is a much greater chance the baby would need special care.
after about 32 weeks the chances of your baby surviving outside the uterus are very good with lungs that are fully developed might be a little under weight but don’t stress in 2008 ever baby born in a well equipped hospital has a good survival rate
It really depends. Some babies are born 6 weeks premature and are able to breathe on their own, and some haven’t quite developed their lungs enough to thrive on their own outside the womb. If there is even a slight chance of preterm delivery, your doctor should have you on steroids to aid in the babies lung developement. I hope he or she is on top of things.
And, actually, a baby born before 37 weeks IS considered premature. 38-40 weeks is full term.
It’s a case by case thing. My best friend delivered 6 weeks early and had a healthy baby boy but my cousin delivered 4 weeks early and her son was in neo natal for a week. If your baby’s been healthy through out your pregnancy then your chances are good that everything will be fine. Good luck and God Bless.
Wow, same thing here. I’m a few days from being 34wks and just found out I have a bladder infection. Started taking the meds for that and the past few days I’ve been having several contractions. Getting very scared about preterm labor! I just want my baby to be healthy..although I am looking forward to not being pregnant anymore! All I know is that our babies will most definitely live..but I’m not sure if they would need special care or not. I think that varies from person to person. Good luck to you & congrats!!!
It’s possible the baby may need special care but 34 weeks is hardly premature.
