Diaper Bag Checklist

by Emily Lordly

You now have your diaper bag sitting there in front of you. You think to yourself, what in the world do you put in it? I have compiled a nice checklist for you. I even added a little explanation why you need certain things along with other tips and tricks.

1. First thing is diapers. You are going to go through a lot of these so I would pack one diaper for at least every 2 hours you are going to be away from the house.

2. Box of baby wipes. Baby poop can get messy at times, well actually all the time so wipes are a must. You can get free sample packages sent directly to your house by simply signing up for email lists on different manufactures websites.

3. A clean changing pad. These are included in most diaper bags now of days but make sure before you leave that it is actually in the bag and didn’t get taken out to be cleaned and not get put back in.

4. Diaper Rash Cream. A small tube will be fine for this. You could probably use the same method for getting diaper rash cream as you did for the baby wipes.

5. Extra clothes and 2 Burp cloths. Babies burp up all the time so you need extra burp clothes. Babies also sometimes make messes that come out the front and also the bottom so it is a good idea to have extra clothes around if the mess makes it pass the bib or the diaper.

6. Pack a receiving blanket in case the meteorologist isn’t right and the temperature changes on you. The last thing you want is a chilled baby.

7. Baby bottle with either fresh breast milk or dry powder formula.

8. Must have a toy. Pack at least one toy to distract your baby in the car seat or in the stroller.

9. Lovey blanket. All babies are attached to their blanket. It won’t hurt bringing it along to give them that security.

10. Soiled clothes and/or diaper bag. A regular plastic bag can work or you can make one yourself with a string closure and a waterproof interior.

Contact information is another good thing to have in your bag. A simple business card will work fine. Having a card that has all of your pediatrician’s numbers on it and any other emergency numbers is a good idea also.

Being prepared with all these things in your diaper bag will help to give you some security knowing that you are as prepared as you could be for certain situations.

I know this seems like a lot to do for just one simple diaper bag. You will not regret taking the time to fully prepare your diaper bag. It will make your outing with your baby that much more enjoyable.
