Has Anyone Ever Gone Through Natural Childbirth?

by Wendy Owen on June 28, 2009

I know that people experience labor and delivery differently but i was wanting to know if anyone here has given birth without any pain medication and if you have any advice for me on how to get through the pain.

I was 17 when I had my daughter who was 7lb 14oz, 51cms long with a 35cm head circumference (her head didn’t cone as its meant to) I went drug free as I wanted her to be born to a mother who was fully there and not doped up. I didn’t even take panadol or any other pain killers when I was pregnant I don’t think it is right….my opinion.
I used hot packs, breathing techs and hot showers to ease my pain, I also tore very very badly so it was a lot of pain. I plan to have my second baby (currently almost 15wks) with no pain meds too

Yes, and I’ll never do it again. It wasn’t by choice, my epidural became blocked 4 times, and they could not get it fixed, so I was on my own. You just find what ever helps you, breathing, screaming, focusing on an object. You will find something, usually during the process, trust me.

I did with my 3rd child, and it was pain -full.
I was taking La maze classes, and was breathing slowly and deeply during longer pain.
I was imagining blue sky and nice worm water, and that helped me a lot.
You need to be relaxed, and you will be fine.
Through history women had their babies naturally. Good luck yo you!

My mom had me and my little sister natural. She told me that i needed to get an epidural cause without it, i’ll be in a LOT of pain. She said it hurt like heck but it’s what she wanted. I’m not good with pain so i’ll prolly end up taking the epidural.

i got one dose of demerol with my first child. it did nothing but make me sick. my second was completely natural. i didn’t even have an iv. just try to relax as much as possible. the more relaxed you are, the quicker your body does the job it’s supposed to do. back rubs are VERY helpful, as are heating pads. if you are in a hospital or birthing center that allows it, take showers or sit in a warm tub. breath through the contractions. i banned my ex from saying “it’s going to be alright” or “i know it hurts honey”. i’m not going to lie…it does hurt. after you have the baby and you get to hold him/her, you’ll forget the pain.

Closest I got to natural was 2 births with only gas and air for pain relief, not that it relieves pain it just takes the edge off! I took it one contraction at a time, thought see how this one goes and if its too much I was going to ask for something stronger. By the time it was a bit much I was pushing so wasnt really able to have anything else anyway.
Good luck

I’ve had all four of mine natural (8lbs 10oz., 10lbs 10oz., 6lbs 11oz., and 5lbs 12oz.). I won’t lie, it hurts like heck. I just focused on getting the baby, breathed, and squeezed either my cousin, mom, or husband’s hand (it helps a lot to have something to hold onto to squeeze through contractions). Epidurals do carry risk, google epidural risks and you’ll find them. My mom’s friends daughter got paralyzed by one so I was too scared to even try. If you do end up needing something, ask for some pain meds through your IV. As soon as that baby is out, you forget all about the pain, I promise. Good luck and congratulations!

I did natural with my first and I was in allot of pain but just went into my own little world and closed my eyes, never opened them till I was ready to push, I had to move and get up on the the bed…There is nothing anyone else can say to help but just try and breath through the contractions…
The worse part for me was the taring when I was pushing, I only pushed for 5 Min’s so I tore like b***h…
Second child I had an epi cause I was getting induce, I think that was the best, not much pain at all and I did tare again but never felt it.
I now am 32 weeks #3 and I am going natural again only cause my daughter didn’t take to well to the epi in the end…

I have had four natural births. I used the Bradley method with all of them. Over 90% of those who use the Bradley method do not need pain medication. The Bradley method uses total relaxation to prevent uterine cramps. Prevent the cramping, and you prevent the worst of the pain. I only had moderate pain with my labor. It felt nothing at all like cramps; it was just a dull ache that came and went. Look for the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

Hi ;) I didn’t really go through it naturally. I did beg for the epidural somewhere during the labor. But the epidural didn’t work, so I ended up feeling everything.
The only advice I can give you is : breathe.
Also, use the bath. It was so nice, for me, to soak in it. I felt relaxed and the pain was less intense.
Try to keep an open mind, don’t be disapointed if you end up taking the epidural.
Best wishes, good luck ;)

HI I’m on my 3 child with no pain meds. I have a 13 year old and a 6 year old. With the 1st child i tried to have a painless labor, in which didn’t work out that way. The epidoral wore off on my left side so I felt the whole thing on 1 side. With my son the epidoral didn’t work at all. It was a lot of pressure in the belly and mostly in the rectum area. I remember feeling like i had to go #2 and not wanting to be embarrased and going right on the table. The doctor said it was completely normal and all women who go natural get this pressure. Needless to say that it was alot of hard work but it was well woth it! My son came out totally aware and alert, were my daughter (13yrs) came out a little distant and extremely sleepy. It’s quite an experience that i will never forget and on July 3rd 2009 I will experience natural birth all over again. I say GO 4 IT!!!!
