Concerns During Pregnancy

There is nothing more stressful than to have something go wrong during your pregnancy. It doesn’t matter if it is your first time being pregnant or your fourth. There are things that may cause you concerns during pregnancy and it will be easier if you know what they are.

Vaginal bleeding:

This may also be called spotting. There is a difference between actively bleeding and spotting. Spotting is when light bleeding occurs, kind of like you have with a period. The blood can be red, pink or even brown. If you are bleeding and have any pain call your doctor. If you can’t get a hold of him go immediately to a hospital emergency room. Bleeding can be caused by a number of things from ectopic pregnancy, early labor, infection or even miscarriage. Always let your doctor know your concerns during pregancy about any bleeding, so everything can be checked and ruled out.  You will feel much better knowing if there is a problem or not.

Stomach pain or cramping:

During the pregnancy it is harder to tell the difference between a growing pain and an actual stomach pain or cramping. If you are having pain of any sort try resting for a while. After a few minutes if the pain has not subsided, talk to your doctor and describe the pain you are experiencing. You may only have gas or were having Braxton hicks contractions, at least you know everything is okay with your pregnancy.

Gush of liquid:

This can mean you are in labor and that your water has broken. However if you are not close to the time of birth it could be something else. Call your doctor immediately and head for the nearest hospital emergency room.

Dehydration:

While you are pregnant it is very easy to become dehydrated. Especially if you have the dreaded morning sickness or just do not drink enough glasses of water during the day. If you are looking pale, have a dry mouth or felling dizzy, you could be dehydrated and should be seen by your doctor. Dehydration can cause premature labor or distress to the baby.

Painful urination:

Could mean you have a urinary tract infection, also known as UTI. This can be easily treated with medication or by drinking lots of fluids. A urinary tract infection is very common when pregnant and not something to be embarrassed about. Your growing belly pushes against your ureters and makes it harder for the urine to flow through and causes an infection. Another way to find out if you have an infection is if there is a foul odor when passing urine.

Being pregnant can be scary enough. If you have any concerns during pregnancy talk with your doctor. It is common that first time mums are worried about any pains that they may feel. While you are worrying, you are only causing stress on you and the baby, find out what may be wrong and relieve your anxiety.
